Neck pain
treatment in Erlangen
How does neck pain show itself?
Neck pain appears in a variety of forms. The most common complaints that bring our patients to us include:
– Tension and stiffness in the neck and shoulder area
– Restricted head movement, especially when turning or tilting
– Tension headaches originating in the neck
– Radiating pain into the shoulder, arm or hand
– Tingling or numbness in the fingers
– Dizziness or difficulty concentrating caused by tension in the cervical spine
Common causes of neck pain
Neck pain often develops through a combination of posture, strain and stress. The cervical spine is particularly sensitive because it carries the head and channels all the nerves running to the shoulder and arm.
Common triggers are:
- Sitting at a screen for long periods with the head pushed forward (also known as “phone neck” or “text neck”)
- Ergonomically poor desk chairs or car seats
- One-sided strain, for example from frequently making phone calls with the receiver clamped against the ear
- Persistent stress and constant tension in the shoulder and neck area
- Misalignments (subluxations) of individual cervical vertebrae
- Whiplash following accidents
- An unfavourable sleeping position with the wrong pillow or a mattress that is too soft
How chiropractic helps with neck pain
With neck pain, chiropractic starts at the cervical spine. Even the smallest misalignments of individual cervical vertebrae can put pressure on the surrounding nerves, tense the muscles and trigger headaches or radiating pain into the arm.
During a chiropractic treatment these misalignments are released with targeted, gentle techniques. We work with particular care here, because the cervical spine is more sensitive than other areas of the spine. The muscles relax, mobility returns, and headaches frequently improve as well.
Dr Zahra Mohammadi brings more than 10 years of experience, trained at Palmer College of Chiropractic in the USA. She combines classic chiropractic techniques with modern methods such as trigger point therapy, kinesio taping and the especially gentle Activator treatment, depending on individual needs.
Treatment methods for neck pain
Depending on your symptoms, we combine various chiropractic techniques. The most important ones for neck pain include:
- Chiropractic adjustment: gentle correction of misalignments in the cervical spine
- Trigger point therapy: to release hardened muscle knots in the neck and shoulder area
- Kinesio taping: to support the muscles in everyday life between treatments
- Spinal decompression: for radiating pain or disc problems in the cervical spine
- Functional examination: to analyse your posture and movement patterns
